Storytelling is the hot topic everywhere right now - and rightly so. One of our first experiences of knowledge, learning and participation comes to us through storytelling.
Childhood stories. Nursery rhymes. Fables and Fairytales.
Childhood storytelling was whimsical and magical - and drew us in easily.
So... how can we bring that level of captivation and excitement into our business storytelling today?
Just because we're older - doesn't mean we should lose the joy in stories. Telling stories is a beautiful part of the human experience. Professional doesn't have to mean boring, and storytelling done right connects to the human-ness in us.
Well i've got good news for you...
You don't have to forgo excitement in business, you just need to be brave enough think outside the box - that's where storytelling comes in.
For me, story is a fundamental part of my work and part of the foundation for the direction I choose to take illustrations for businesses.
First it starts with storycapture -
Diving deep into what you have to say, and searching for the small details that can be portrayed visually. Sometimes that's a consultation, sometimes it's visiting your event in person to take in the atmosphere.
Then, we focus on storytelling.
What do we need to communicate that allows our client to have a personal interpretation and relationship to the story?
Sometimes it's finding the sweet spot between just enough information. Too specific and you've isolated some of your audience. Too broad and you could be talking to anyone, that nothing really lands. Illustration becomes 'decoration' instead of the powerful communication tool it can be.
Visually, through illustration - I focus on imagery that gives clients enough of a starting point, and allow their own imagination to do the rest.
You might be reading this wondering why story is even needed - but it really can be the heart of the connection between you and your clients.
Story connects to the human-ness in us.
Story allows your clients to see how your business can help them.
Story allows your clients to imagine a better circumstance for themselves.
Simply, story can give hope.
And, if you think about it, we could all do with some hope, right?
If you are interested in seeing how visual storytelling can help your business, I'd love to chat to you! You can reach out to me here, or follow along on instagram where I share more of my work, including storytelling for personal projects.
